Gretchen Paxson

Gretchen Paxson-Abberger holds a Bachelor Arts from Bennington College where she studied painting with Pat Adams, violin with Jacob Glick, and composition with Louis Calabro and Henry Brant. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music studying violin with Ariana Bronne, and Burton Kaplan. She earned her master's degree in Baroque Violin on scholarship at the Mannes College of Music's Historical Performance Department, studying with Nancy Wilson.

Gretchen has performed and recorded with Vermont Mozart Festival, Tafelmusik, Opera Atelier in Toronto, Mendelssohn Choir, and the Tost String Quartet, as well as with The Aulos Ensemble, ARTEK (Art of the Early Keyboard), and Rebel Baroque Orchestra in New York City. Gretchen's other passion is teaching violin to a diverse private studio comprised of students ranging from age 3 to 83! She has served on the faculty at the North York Suzuki School of Music since moving to Toronto in 1994, and has been artistic director of the Suzuki Program at the Miles Nadal jcc since 1999.
